Netanyahu to Press Trump on Iran’s Missile Threat in Crucial Washington Summit
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will press President Donald Trump on Wednesday to broaden negotiations with Iran beyond its nuclear program. Israel’s leader emphasized that Tehran’s ballistic missile capabilities represent an urgent threat requiring immediate attention.
Netanyahu explicitly stated before his departure that negotiations with Iran remain the top priority for this high-level diplomatic mission. “On this trip we will discuss a range of issues: Gaza, the region, but of course first and foremost the negotiations with Iran,” Netanyahu declared.
While Washington previously focused on nuclear capabilities, Israel now demands that any future agreement must include Iran’s long-range projectiles. Furthermore, Israeli officials argue these missiles pose an immediate danger because they could overwhelm the nation’s advanced air-defense systems.

This meeting follows recent indirect talks between the United States and Iran in Oman, which Trump suggested would continue soon. However, Iran’s foreign ministry warned that Netanyahu’s visit would have a “destructive” influence on diplomacy detrimental to the region.
The scars of the unprecedented 12-day war last June remain fresh for both nations after waves of Iranian missiles struck. “I don’t think it’s like existential threat, but definitely it’s a major threat on the Israeli home front,” noted expert Danny Citrinowicz.
