KSA Embraces Environmental Strategy for Smart Cities

Today, in Riyadh, Mansour bin Hilal Al-Mushaiti, Deputy Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, affirmed that KSA embraces an environmental strategy for smart cities that improve the quality of life and attain environmental and economic sustainability.

He highlighted that the “The Line” project in the city of NEOM is an extraordinary environmental standard that sets the bar for sustainability requirements.

Why KSA Embraces Environmental Strategy?

Mushaiti emphasized the importance of adopting sustainable methods in his speech at the “Future of Real Estate Forum“. He declared that implementing sustainable methods positively impacts the growth and prosperity of the planet and humans.

He confirmed that the investment in the sustainable real estate market will expand by using environmental practices, such as smart cities and green buildings.

Mushaiti emphasized the Ministry’s aim of maintaining natural resources and achieving environmental sustainability.

Moreover, the Ministry collaborates with government organizations, the private sector, and agencies to guarantee food and water security.

He stated that KSA embraces an environmental strategy to support the real estate sector. Furthermore, it creates significant development initiatives in an environmentally responsible way, in line with Vision 2030’s objectives.

Results of KSA Using Green Strategy

As a result of KSA’s green strategy, numerous international gatherings and events have been held in KSA. For example, KSA hosted the sixteenth Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP16). Additionally, the Kingdom hosted the Riyadh Expo 2030.

Mushaiti stated that the balance of the environment is not a barrier to the growth of real estate. Rather, it signifies fresh business prospects. According to preliminary research, effective waste management would boost the economy annually by 120 billion riyals by 2035.

KSA Strategy to Create Sustainable Cities

He highlighted that the government, working in collaboration with all segments of society, surmounted obstacles when converting to sustainable cities.

Moreover, the obstacles decreased by formulating national policies and building an institutional and legal framework that functions.

Importance of Water System for Real Estate Development

Mushaiti also tackled the water system file. He clarified that the water system is a significant contributor to sustainable real estate development.

He explained that the water system uses an integrated approach to manage water resources sustainably. This approach starts from desalination to making the most use of reclaimed water for industrial, municipal, agricultural, and environmental purposes.

In addition, he stated that the total amount of money approved for water projects was approximately (211) billion riyals. On the other hand, the portfolio of private sector projects in KSA totaled (130) billion riyals.

 KSA Efforts to Overcome Urbanization Effects

He said that KSA is trying to lessen the effects of urbanization on agriculture to help achieve food security. Thus, the Ministry is promoting sustainable agriculture, utilizing agricultural technology, and implementing creative solutions.
