Government of Yemen: Houthis will not yield to peace without military pressure

Muammar Al-Eryani, Yemen’s Minister of Information reiterated on Tuesday that the Houthi group will not accept demands for peace unless it is forced to do so by military and political means.

“This dangerous escalation confirms once again the terrorist Houthi militia’s blatant defiance of the international community’s will, and its blind submission to the Iranian agenda aimed at undermining calm efforts and speeding up the pace of conflict in Yemen and the region, and its indifference to the high cost of the continuation of the conflict,” he wrote in a series of tweets on his Twitter account.

“We call on the international community, the United Nations, the permanent members of the Security Council, and the UN and US envoys to carry out their responsibilities regarding the Houthi militia’s continued escalation at Iran’s behest, planning, and support, and realizing that the militia will not succumb to calls and efforts for calm and peace in Yemen except under political pressure,” he added.

The Houthis loyal to Iran have been waging a military assault to move into Ma’rib since February, despite UN and US calls to halt the attacks, as well as requests from humanitarian organizations.

However, the militias, who have been unable to advance due to public and military opposition, are continuing their attacks to gain control of the city, which is located in an oil-rich region.
