Egyptian President Sisi Inaugurated for Third Term

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi was sworn in Tuesday for his third consecutive term in office, in the presence of high-level state officials and parliament members.

After winning the presidential election in December, with 89.6% of the votes, al-Sisi is set to stay president until 2030, reported Al Ahram Online.

In his inauguration speech before the Egyptian parliament, al-Sisi reaffirmed his commitment to “continuing the journey of nation-building and fulfilling the aspirations of the esteemed Egyptian people in building a modern democratic state.”

He pledged to continue fostering balanced relations with all nations to strengthen the role of Egypt in promoting global peace, security and development.

The Egyptian President confirmed his commitment to adopting strategies which maximize Egypt’s economic resources. He said that the state will start comprehensive institutional reforms to ensure financial discipline and achieve effective governance.

Al-Sisi also promised to foster national dialogue and implement its recommendations to promote political and democratic participation, with a focus on youth.

The inauguration event marks the actual opening of the new parliament building at the New administrative Capital, located east of Cairo.

The construction of the new capital began in 2015, over an area of 714 million m2. It is expected to accommodate 6.5 million residents once completed. Several ministries and government entities have relocated to the New Administrative Capital.
