German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is set to welcome Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy at the Chancellery in Berlin on Tuesday, according to Arab News.
The visit is part of formal German–Ukrainian government consultations, a spokesperson for the German government confirmed.
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, Germany has emerged as Europe’s largest provider of military assistance to Ukraine, contributing approximately €55 billion (around $64 billion) in support.
In its 2026 federal budget, Germany has set aside €11.5 billion to support Ukraine.
The upcoming meeting comes at a crucial time as the US-initiated peace talks between Russia and Ukraine have failed since Kyiv have firmly rejected the idea of giving up its territories.
