An overnight Ukrainian drone strike injured a young boy and four adults in a Moscow suburb, Russian officials confirmed on Friday morning. Andrey Vorobyov, the Moscow region’s governor, immediately reported on Telegram that the drone struck a residential building’s apartment on the fourteenth floor in the city of Krasnogorsk. Meanwhile, the Russian Defence Ministry claimed its air defenses successfully intercepted 111 Ukrainian drones overnight across several contested regions.
Russian forces persistently launch heavy bombardments against Ukraine, targeting crucial energy infrastructure in anticipation of the upcoming winter season, consequently provoking reciprocal strikes. Nonetheless, the Ukrainian military rarely targets the capital Moscow and its surrounding metropolitan areas with these specific long-range attack missions.
Western Pressure Intensifies
As the conflict now enters its fourth winter, Kyiv’s Western allies intensify pressure on the Kremlin, seeking to undermine the Russian war economy. For instance, the United States and the European Union both announced significant new sanctions this week, specifically targeting Russian energy exports and associated entities.
Additionally, European Union leaders began taking substantial steps toward funding Ukraine’s defense needs for the next two years. Nevertheless, they hesitated to approve a massive “reparations loan” which officials had planned to back using frozen Russian state assets.
