Trump’s UK State Visit Kicks Off with Royal Welcome

US President Donald Trump arrived in Windsor on Wednesday to meet senior members of the Royal Family, marking the first full day of his state visit to the UK. The Prince and Princess of Wales greeted Trump and First Lady Melania before King Charles and Queen Camilla formally welcomed them.

The day’s events include a carriage procession through the Windsor estate, a flypast, and a state banquet. Trump touched down in London late on Tuesday for his second state visit, which combines royal pageantry, trade talks, and international politics.

Political and Trade Aspects

The visit coincided with major announcements, including $31bn in US tech investment in Britain. Microsoft pledged $22bn, while Google owner Alphabet confirmed a $6.8bn boost for artificial intelligence research. The US and UK will also sign an agreement to accelerate nuclear power development. However, hopes of removing tariffs on UK steel exports remain unresolved. Trump praised King Charles, calling him a friend and an elegant gentleman. The UK government aims to encourage continued US commitment to NATO and support for Ukraine.

A joint US and UK flypast by F-35 jets and the Red Arrows will showcase the military relationship. The state banquet in St George’s Hall will feature speeches by King Charles and President Trump, highlighting the special relationship between the two nations.

Anti-Trump protesters gathered in Windsor, with four men arrested for an unauthorized projection. A heavy security operation is in place for the visit, which concludes on Thursday afternoon.
