Sudan excludes the possibility of war with Ethiopia

The head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, ruled out going to war with Ethiopia over the Grand Renaissance Ethiopian Dam (GERD). According to him, the country aims to sign a legally binding agreement to fill and run the dam.

The demand comes after Sudan opposition to Ethiopia’s declaration that a second filling of the dam lake will take place during the rainy season next July.

In an interview with the news France 24, Al-Burhan said: “Sudan has no desire for a conflict with Ethiopia, but our right to sovereignty over our lands will not be hampered.”

During its deployment in the eastern borders, which started in November 2020, the Sudanese army restored 95% of the agricultural areas that Ethiopian forces and militias had occupied for 26 years.
