Saudia Group Partners with Loop KSA to Boost Circular Economy Practices
In a major milestone toward promoting sustainability, Saudia Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Loop KSA, a prominent Saudi company specializing in circular economy and sustainable waste management solutions.
The agreement is part of Saudia Group’s efforts to advance its sustainability goals locally and globally, in line with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 which includes a transition to circular economy.
Saudia-Loop Partnership
In a statement, Saudi Group said that the MoU’s main goal is to reduce the group’s carbon footprint. To this end, the agreement will lay the foundations for an advanced infrastructure to support circular economy practices and establish a comprehensive program for waste management across Saudia Group’s subsidiaries and operations.
Under the MoU, current waste sources will undergo an assessment. Moreover, the partnership will forge Saudia Group’s first-ever “Zero-Waste” strategy. This includes launching recycling initiatives, developing infrastructure for collection and processing waste, and creating awareness programs for employees and the community.
The partnership also involves continuous performance monitoring and preparations for international “Zero-Waste” certification in the field of recycling.
Redefining Waste Management
During a ceremony, the Vice President of Sustainability at Saudia Group, Maryam Telmesani, and the Chief Executive Officer of Loop, Ali Bakhalgi, signed the agreement, which saw the handing over of around 6,000 cabin crew uniforms for recycling as the first initiative under the MoU.
On this occasion, Telmesani emphasized Saudia Group’s commitment to sustainability. “Saudia Group continues to advance its sustainability strategy, from improving operational efficiency and supporting local content to launching targeted initiatives and building global partnerships. These efforts contribute to our broader sustainability goals, both within the Kingdom and globally,” she said.
Meanwhile, Loop’s CEO, Bakhalgi, expressed excitement about the new partnership with Saudi Group. “We are proud to partner with Saudia Group on an initiative that will redefine waste management. Together, we will foster a culture of circular economy and sustainability through awareness programs and practical solutions, fully aligned with the Kingdom’s objectives and Saudi Vision 2030,” he noted.
Commitment to Sustainability
Saudia Group has demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainability, playing a vital role in promoting sustainable practices across the aviation sector. Within this context, it actively participates in national and international committees developing sustainability policies and regulations, and takes part in the Public Investment Fund’s Regional Voluntary Carbon Market Initiative.
Saudia Group has also launched several initiatives to support sustainability, including modernizing its fleet with more fuel-efficient aircraft, electrifying ground equipment, and launching community-focused programs sustainability awareness initiatives.
Furthermore, the group is an active member in the SkyTeam Alliance, driving its efforts to reduce carbon footprint in the aviation industry.
