Saudi FM Urges Fair Mineral Access, Responsible AI at G20 Summit

Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Faisal bin Farhan participated in the second-day sessions of the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa on Sunday, on behalf of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.

The session, titled “A fair and equitable future for all critical minerals: decent work and artificial intelligence,” saw active participation from the Saudi delegation.

In his address, Prince Faisal commended South Africa’s presidency of the G20, highlighting the country’s efforts in shaping this year’s strategic outcomes, that build on past achievements and advance solutions to the challenges facing many member states.

Call for Fair Access to Critical Minerals

Moreover, Prince Faisal emphasized the necessity of ensuring fairness and equity in accessing and investing in critical minerals, noting that these resources are essential for economic growth. Additionally, they are crucial for balancing development with environmental protection amidst the global shift toward green economies and clean technologies.

“The Kingdom views artificial intelligence as a key driver of innovation, resource efficiency, and sustainability across sectors,” Prince Faisal stated, adding that responsible AI development requires dialogue, cooperation, and collective action. In addition, respect for international law, consumer protection, and safeguarding intellectual property are also essential. These elements form the basis for a fair and inclusive governance framework.

Commitment to Global Economic Cooperation

Furthermore, Prince Faisal reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to collaborating with G20 members, with a goal to build a more inclusive, just, and sustainable global economic system. This system must root itself in cooperation, innovation, and equal opportunity, which will support shared prosperity and protect the future of coming generations.

In conclusion, the session was attended by Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan and Saudi G20 Sherpa Abdulmohsen Al-Khalaf, underscoring Saudi Arabia’s active role in global discussions on critical issues.
