
Saudi athletes made an impressive start on the opening day of the third Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, earning multiple victories across various sports.
At the Bahrain National Stadium, national athletics team member Naif Al-Sumairi captured Saudi Arabia’s first medal of the tournament. The Saudi athletics team is set to participate in four additional races today.
In handball, the Saudi team advanced to the semi-finals after a commanding 43–16 win over Hong Kong in Group A—securing a perfect record with earlier victories against the Maldives and Jordan. The team will also face host nation Bahrain on Sunday to determine the group’s top seed.
Meanwhile, the Saudi volleyball team triumphed over Mongolia, winning three sets to one in the second round of Group E at Isa Sports City.
The Saudi mixed martial arts team also impressed, clinching several spots in the final rounds after multiple first-day victories at Exhibition World Bahrain.
Rounding out the strong performances, the Saudi show jumping team completed the first round with a flawless score (zero faults), marking a successful start to their campaign.
