Saudi Arabia to Hold Lunar Eclipse Prayers at Grand Mosque Tonight

Saudi Arabia’s Presidency of Religious Affairs announces the observance of Salat Al Khusuf today, Sunday, at the Grand Mosque today, at 9:00 PM local time.

The presidency noted that worshippers can perform moon eclipse prayers on Sunday, 15 Rabi Al Awwal 1447 (7 September 2025) at both the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah.

Sheikh Badr al Turki will be the Imam of Salat Al Khusuf at the Grand Mosque, while Abdullah Qaraafi will lead the prayer at the Prophet’s Mosque.

Over seven billion people across the world are set to observe a rare total lunar eclipse this evening, with much of the Arab and Islamic world are expected to witness it with clear visibility.

Interestingly, the partial eclipse will start at 7.27pm Riyadh time, reaching totality at 8.30pm, according to According to Abdullah Al Misnad, former professor of climatology at Qassim University.

The eclipse will reach its peak at 9:11 p.m. before gradually fading, coming to an end at 10:56 p.m.

Overall, the phenomenon will span three hours and 29 minutes, with the Moon remaining fully immersed in Earth’s shadow for one hour and 22 minutes.
