According to CNBC Arabia, Saudi Arabia has announced many proposals to expand numerous regions and entirely transform them into smart cities.
“Makkah Al-Mukarramah, Riyadh, Jeddah, Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah, and Al-Ahsa” are the five cities in Saudi Arabia that the country wants to turn into smart cities.
This will be accomplished by utilizing technology to make the lives of its residents easier and to expand the impact of this on the knowledge side, to improve the quality of life in all parts of those cities.
Saudi Arabia can be an incubator for smart cities, as it advanced 40 ranks last year in ranking countries in terms of strength and quality of communications and information technology infrastructure, and ranked third globally in 5G technology.
It is noteworthy that among the other smart cities and regions, is the “NEOM” area, which will be built within the expected investments, amounting to 500 billion dollars.
The “Line” area was also announced within the region, which is a smart city that accommodates one million people and uses clean energy, and prevents the passage of vehicles and cars.
The city will include interconnected cognitive communities enhanced by artificial intelligence, stretching over 170 km, within an environment without noise or pollution, free of vehicles and congestion,
This is a direct response to the challenges of urbanization to human progress, such as dilapidated infrastructure, environmental pollution, and urban and population sprawl.
