The Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, held a meeting on Saturday with the Commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM), Admiral Charles Bradford Cooper, in Doha.
During their meeting, both officials reviewed the close strategic relations between Qatar and the US, according to the Qatari Foreign Ministry. They also discussed ways to further strengthen ties, particularly in the fields of military and defense cooperation.
Furthermore, the Qatari Prime Minister and CENTCOM Commander, who is visiting Qatar, discussed several topics of common interest.
The meeting came days after the Israeli attack on Hamas leaders in Doha, as they gathered to discuss a US proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza. The strikes killed five group officials, including Khalil Al-Hayya’s son and the director of his office, in addition to a member of the Qatari security forces.
The attack drew global condemnation as a flagrant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and a threat to peace negotiations as Doha is a key mediator in Gaza ceasefire talks.
Following the attack, the Qatari Prime Minister met on Friday with the US Vice President, JD Vance, and Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, at the White House, before meeting with President, Donald Trump, and Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, in New York.
Doha will host an Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit on Monday to discuss a draft statement on the Israeli attack on Qatar, forged by the preparatory meeting of Arab and Islamic foreign ministers set to take place on Sunday. The move underscores a collective determination to unify positions in the face of this flagrant threat and to coordinate joint efforts to confront Israel’s repeated violations, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).
