Qatar Says Six Dead in Military Helicopter Crash, Search Ongoing for Pilot

Qatar’s defence ministry said six people were confirmed dead after a military helicopter crashed in the country’s territorial waters early on Sunday, while search operations continued for a missing pilot.

Those killed included three members of the Qatar Armed Forces, pilot Captain Mubarak Salem Daway Al-Marri, Sergeant Fahad Hadi Ghanem Al-Khayarin and Corporal Mohammed Maher Mohammed, the ministry said in a statement.

Also among the dead were Major Sinan Taştekin from the Qatar-Turkey joint forces and two Turkish civilians, Suleiman Cemra Kahraman and Ismail Anas Can, who were on board the aircraft.

Search efforts were ongoing for Captain Saeed Nasser Samekh, another member of the Qatar Armed Forces, the ministry added.

The defence ministry expressed condolences to the families of the victims and said it was praying for God’s mercy upon them.
