The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Saturday condemned remarks by US Ambassador Mike Huckabee regarding Israeli expansion across the Middle East. The Jeddah-based organization warned that his comments directly threaten regional security and violate the principles of established international law. Consequently, the OIC described the statements as dangerous and irresponsible provocations that undermine diplomatic norms and the United Nations Charter.
Biblical Claims and Expansionist Rhetoric
Mike Huckabee recently argued that Israel maintains a biblical right to land stretching from the Nile to the Euphrates rivers. During a podcast interview with journalist Tucker Carlson, the ambassador defended Israel’s actions while supporting the idea of “divine providence.” When Carlson asked for clarification on the specific territory, Huckabee explicitly replied: “It would be fine if they took it all.”
The OIC strongly rejected this historical narrative, calling it an unacceptable justification for the seizure of additional Palestinian and Arab lands. Furthermore, the organization stated that such extremist rhetoric fuels further violence and emboldens policies centered on displacement and illegal annexation. These claims violate state sovereignty and ignore numerous UN resolutions aimed at maintaining peace within the occupied Palestinian territories.
Defending International Law and Sovereignty
The OIC warned that these irresponsible comments encourage the occupying power to continue its systematic attempts to impose new realities. By invoking rejected ideological narratives, the ambassador has fundamentally challenged the stability of the entire region and its diplomatic frameworks. Therefore, the international community must address these calls for expansion to prevent further escalation and protect the rights of sovereign nations.
Members of the OIC emphasized that stability requires adherence to the UN Charter rather than pursuing extremist and expansionist agendas. The organization remains committed to defending Palestinian land against any attempts to normalize displacement or the illegal seizure of territory. Ultimately, the OIC calls for a unified international stance against rhetoric that promotes the violation of Arab and Islamic sovereignty.
