Mandela’s Grandson Joins Gaza Aid Flotilla to Challenge Israel Blockade

Mandla Mandela, the grandson of South Africa’s anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela, announced on Friday that he will join pro-Palestinian activists, aiming to break Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza by sailing from Tunisia on an aid boat.

“We, as the South African delegation, chose to join the Global Sumud Flotilla here in Tunisia. We want to emphasize that Africa is part of this struggle,” Mandla Mandela stated during a press conference in Tunis.

Understanding the Struggle Against Occupation

Mandla Mandela expressed solidarity with the Palestinian cause, saying, “As Africans, we understand what it means to live under occupation and oppression.” His remarks highlight the shared experiences of people living under oppressive regimes.

The Maghreb Sumud Flotilla plans to set sail on Sunday, according to organizers as they aim to join other Gaza-bound boats that have already departed from Spain and Italy. Originally scheduled for last Thursday, the flotilla’s departure was postponed due to inclement weather. Organizers have yet to confirm the exact time and location for the departure.

Approximately 100 activists have registered to participate in the flotilla from Tunis, highlighting the growing international support for the Palestinian cause and the ongoing struggle against oppression.
