Macron to Visit Egypt on Monday to Discuss Next Phases of Gaza Peace Deal

French President Emmanuel Macron is set to visit Egypt on Monday, in a diplomatic mission to advance the Gaza ceasefire and hostage deal, according to Elysee Palace.

Macron will discuss the implementation of the next phases of the peace deal brokered by the United States to end the two-year war on Gaza.

The French Presidency did not reveal whether Macron will meet with US President Donald Trump, who also has a scheduled visit to Egypt on Monday.

In September, France officially recognized the Palestinian State during the United Nations General Assembly.

The relations between France and Israel have deteriorated since Macron revealed his plan to formally recognize a Palestinian state.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed a request by Macron to make a brief visit ahead of the UN General Assembly in September.

In July, France called on the Israeli government to allow independent and foreign press into Gaza Strip amid mounting concerns of famine in Gaza, according to Le Monde.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot stressed the need of allowing free press into the besieged Strip to “show what is happening there and to bear witness.”

Moreover, Macron accused Israeli Netanyahu’s government of committing “shameful and disgraceful,” actions in Gaza.

In a special television appearance broadcast on the TF1 channel, Macron noted that it is not for Netanyahu to decide whether this constitutes genocide, but rather for historians.

“What Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is doing today in Gaza is unacceptable. It is shameful and disgraceful,” Macron said.
