KSA welcomes hosting the Club World Cup instead of Japan
Yasser Al-Mishal, President of Saudi Football Association, confirmed that KSA is ready to host the current edition of Club World Cup.
“We have contacted (FIFA) and indicated a genuine desire to host the event since the first day of news of Japan’s inclination to apologize for hosting the tournament,” Al-Mishal said in remarks to Saudi TV (SSC).
Al-Mishal added, “The International Federation expressed its welcome, but confirmed that consultations with Japan are still ongoing,
He said that the file has not been completely resolved, and that the tournament agenda includes the name of the alternative country for Japan.”
The Japanese Football Association wants to forgo the organizing of the Club World Cup this year, , due to concerns over the ongoing rise in the number of Corona virus illnesses , according to (Kyodo) news agency.
Seven teams will compete in the competition, with Al-Ahly of Egypt, Chelsea of England, and Auckland City of New Zealand having already booked their spots.
