Handball: Saudi Youth Team Set to Face Japan in 2024 Asian Championship

By Omnia Osama–The Saudi youth handball  gears up to take on their Japanese counterparts at the 18th Asian Men’s Junior (U21) Handball Championship on Thursday.
The match, scheduled to be held during the preliminary stage of the championship, forms part of Group B.
The 18th Youth Asian Championship 2024, hosted by  Jordan Handball Federation (JHF), is currently underway and will continue until 25 July 2024.
This edition of the Asian Championship is the third time being hosted by the JHF, with previous tournaments held in 2008 and 2016, showcasing Jordan’s commitment to the sport.
The championship also holds significant importance as it serves as a qualifying event for the 25th IHF Men’s Junior (U21) Handball World Championship which will be held in Poland.
Kicking off their campaign with a strong start, the Saudi handball team secured a resounding victory against the Hong Kong team, winning with an impressive scoreline of 45-19.
Dominating the match from the beginning, the Saudi team established a commanding lead of 23-7 in the first half and continued their dominance in the second half, securing a remarkable 26-goal margin.
It is worth noting that the Japanese handball team clinched the title in 2022.
Japan, along with the Republic of Korea, holds the distinction of being the only teams to have participated in all seventeen previous editions of the championship.
The upcoming clash between the Saudi and Japanese teams promises to be an exciting encounter, as both sides aim to showcase their skills and emerge victorious in the prestigious Asian Championship.
