Emir Tamim’s Speech: A Model of Diplomacy Grounded in International Law, Humanitarian Principles

In his speech before the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, reiterated Qatari consistent policy of supporting the Palestinian cause and rejecting occupation.
Sheikh Tamim stressed that Israel’s recent aggressions against Gaza and Qatari territories represent “state terrorism,” a blatant violation of international law, and a direct threat to regional and international security.
Moreover, he said that Qatar will resume its role as a neutral and active mediator in resolving regional and international conflicts, whether in Gaza, Ukraine or Africa, adhering to a vision based on dialogue, justice and respect for international law, eschewing the logic of power and the law of the jungle.
The Qatari Emir also reaffirmed support for Sudan, Lebanon and Syria, underscoring Doha’s commitment to working for achieving stability in the region and promoting global peace.
Soft Power & Political Mediation
Commenting on Sheikh Tamim’s speech, the Vice President of the International Public Relations Association – Gulf Chapter (IPRA-GC), Abdullah Mohammed Al Abdul-Jabbar, said: “The Qatari Emir’s speech before the international community embodied a thoughtful model of effective diplomacy based on international law and humanitarian principles.”
“Doha not only reiterated its steadfast support for just Arab causes, but also presented a comprehensive vision that underscores its ability to balance soft power and political mediation,” Al Abdul-Jabbar added.
“Through managing complex and sensitive issues, Qatar has proven that it does not seek to impose its will by force. Rather, it acts out of a genuine dedication and responsible commitment, making it an exemplary model for promoting regional and global stability,” the IPRA-GC Vice President noted.
Realistic & Sustainable Solutions
Al Abdul-Jabbar commended introducing realistic and sustainable solutions through dialogue and diplomatic initiatives.
“In recent years, Qatar has proven its ability to handle complex issues with a mindset that balances firm principles and humanitarian interests, acting as an exemplary model for promoting stability in the region,” he said.
Palestinian Cause Centrality
The IPRA-GC Vice President said that Qatar’s vision is that true power does not lie in imposing one’s will by force, but in influencing through responsible action and commitment to international law.
In the light of this, he praised Sheikh Tamim’s speech, in which he stressed that the increasing recognitions of the State of Palestine send a clear message to the world that violence and military power will not succeed in undermining the centrality of the Palestinian cause.
Al Abdul-Jabbar noted the speech of Qatar’s Emir represented a clear declaration of Qatar’s firm stance on Israeli assault, emphasizing support for the legitimate rights of the Arab and Islamic nation, and the urgent need to protect the security and stability of the region.
