‘Aseer Manuscripts Exhibition’ Showcases Region’s History, Culture

The House of Culture in Ahad Rufaidah Governorate, Aseer Region, on Friday kicked off the “Aseer Manuscripts Exhibition,” reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The Exhibition is held under the patronage of the Governor of Aseer Region and Chairman of its Development Authority Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdulaziz, and in partnership between the Aseer Region Development Authority, the Libraries Commission, the Aseer History Center, and the King Abdulaziz Public Library.

The Aseer Manuscripts Exhibition displays a number of manuscripts and historical documents that highlight Aseer’s history. It also features ancient coins that belong to various eras. Additionally, the Exhibition showcases numerous old photos, some of which are on display for the first time.

Moreover, the Aseer Manuscripts Exhibition holds lectures and panel discussions on the sidelines, with the participation of experts and specialists. They discuss topics related to Aseer’s culture, history and heritage.

The first lecture was for Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdullah bin Hamid, titled “Social Customs in Aseer,”. He discussed some of the customs and traditions that shaped the daily life in Aseer in ancient times, highlighting their positive impact on the society’s cohesion.

Furthermore, the events accompanying the Exhibition include a specialized workshop on the restoration of manuscripts and old documents, a session on documenting oral narratives and an art exhibition.

The Aseer Manuscripts Exhibition runs for 20 days. It aims to promote the Region’s culture and heritage to deliver the objectives of the Aseer Development Strategy and highlight the contributions of cultural entities to preserve Aseer’s cultural and scientific heritage.

It also aims to enable history enthusiasts to hold meetings and open discussions on topics of common interest, develop a collaborative cultural system across various entities to improve cultural outcomes and encourage cultural tourism, and provide tourists with a comprehensive knowledge-based experience.
