Living for as long as possible without getting sick is pivotal to the quality of the food that a person eats.
The red drink astonished prominent scientists after they proved that consuming it in moderation can be a reason to avoid disease for a long life.
Body cells energy generators
According to what was published by the British “The Express”, all cells of the human body are filled with small energy generators called “mitochondria”.
When the “mitochondria” become old, they are less efficient, and may turn into toxic elements or impede the ability of cells in the organs to perform their functions.
Old “mitochondria” are recycled by the cell into new “mitochondria”, but with age the cells’ ability to recycle slows down, leading to muscle weakness.
Scientists discovered that pomegranate contains a substance called “urolithin A”, which is the first and only compound known to be able to regenerate “mitochondria”.
A recent clinical trial, conducted by research teams from the Federal Institute of Lausanne EPFL in Switzerland, showed that “urolithin A,” a compound derived from biomolecules found in fruits such as pomegranates, could slow this process by improving the action of mitochondria. Then, “urolithin A”, a metabolite of vital molecules found in pomegranate and other fruits, helps slow down the aging process.
Worms and rats
In a study, the results of which were published in the Journal of Medicine, Life Extension, the benefits of pomegranate to extend life without disease were examined.
Researchers “for the first time administered” urolithin A “to a worm called C. elegans, which is commonly used in anti-aging studies because after only eight to 10 days it becomes old. Its short lifespan allows scientists to monitor and measure the effects of aging in just over a week.
The researchers noted that the group that took “urolithin A” increased its age by more than 45%.
Antioxidant, antiviral and anti-tumor agent
Pomegranate has antioxidant, antiviral and anti-tumor properties and is said to be a good source of vitamins, especially vitamins A, C and E, as well as folic acid.
Many studies indicate that these properties help slow down the aging process, enhance the body’s ability to fight disease and promote cell regeneration.
