The Makkah Taxi service has been playing a crucial role in modernizing the city’s transportation network and elevating the overall pilgrim experience since its launch on January 13, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
Bold Goals
The initiative has set a bold goal to strengthen Makkah’s infrastructure and ensure that pilgrims and residents can navigate the city with ease.
The General Transport Center of the Royal Commission for Mecca City and Holy Sites (RCMC) launched the service in January at the Hajj Conference and Exhibition.
Launched under a contract concession system, the service officially began operating on Monday, January 13, with a gradual rollout designed to ensure a seamless and efficient transition for both residents and visitors.
Unprecedented Service
Operating 24 hours a day, the service features 47 strategic locations throughout Makkah, including major stations and areas surrounding the Grand Mosque. Thus, it provides pilgrims with easy, reliable access to modern taxi services.
The service also improves the overall mobility of residents and pilgrims and reduces traffic congestion within the holy city.
To foster safety and reliability, all vehicles meet the latest global specifications, featuring in-vehicle surveillance cameras, passenger-counting sensors, an emergency button for rapid response, as well as a dedicated call center.
Steady Commitment
By launching the Makkah Taxi service, the RCMC affirmed its dedication to boosting the transportation experience for pilgrims and locals, especially during peak times such as Hajj and Umrah seasons.
By the end of 2025, the Mecca Taxi fleet is anticipated to reach approximately 1,800 vehicles, marking a significant expansion seeking to accommodate the city’s increasing demand for efficient and high-quality transport services.
Interestingly, the fleet will also incorporate eco-friendly vehicles and other operational strategies to decrease environmental impact.
