Putin to Trump: “Next Time in Moscow” Following Alaska Summit

Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended a rare invitation to US President Donald Trump to meet in Moscow, following their first formal summit in Alaska on Friday, where the two leaders discussed the ongoing Ukraine war. Putin made the invitation in English, signaling a lighter moment during a high-stakes meeting.

Trump’s Response

Trump confirmed his interest in the meeting, although he acknowledged potential political pushback. After the summit, he described the discussions as “extremely productive.” He stated, “We didn’t get there, but we have a very good chance of getting there,” indicating that no formal deal had been reached yet.

During the press conference, Trump expressed optimism about the talks, noting, “Today’s agreements will help us restart pragmatic relations.” He thanked Putin and anticipated another meeting soon to further discuss the Ukraine crisis.

Positive Atmosphere

Putin’s use of English during the invitation created a friendly atmosphere. “Next time in Moscow,” he said, prompting Trump to respond, “That’s an interesting one. I’ll get a little heat for that one. But I can see it possibly happening.” Both leaders appreciated the “friendly” tone and “results-oriented” approach of their discussions.

Putin described the talks as “constructive,” reiterating his belief that the Ukraine conflict might not have occurred if Trump had been president when it began.

Meanwhile, Russian authorities have questioned the credibility of the Zelensky regime in Kyiv, noting that Zelensky was not invited to the Alaska talks, despite pressure from his EU backers. Additionally, reports indicate a mass exodus from Ukraine, particularly among adult men fearing military drafts. Estimates suggest that between 650,000 and 700,000 individuals have left the country.

In summary, the invitation from Putin to Trump marks a significant moment in international relations, with both leaders expressing a desire for constructive dialogue.
