Saudi Arabia is boldly deepening its position in the US Treasury market, with its holdings rising by $10.7 billion year-on-year in July 2026.
Saudi Treasury Holdings Rise 8%
According to the US Treasury Department’s monthly report released Thursday, the Kingdom’s holdings of US Treasury securities reached an 8% annual increase compared with July 2025.
This remarkable increase further strengthens the Saudi Arabia’s position as a major foreign holder of US government debt.
That annual growth was accompanied by a largely stable monthly performance, underscoring the Kingdom’s sustained presence in the US Treasury market.
On a monthly basis, Saudi Arabia’s holdings edged down by just 0.1%, or around $100 million, in July to reach $142.4 billion. Long-term securities continued to dominate the portfolio at $110.2 billion, or 77%, while short-term holdings stood at approximately $32.2 billion, representing 23%.
Saudi Arabia Ranks 17th Globally
Notably, the steady performance also keeps Saudi Arabia firmly among the world’s leading holders of US Treasury securities, underscoring the expanding scope of the Kingdom’s exposure to US government debt.
Saudi Arabia ranked 17th globally in July, with $142.4 billion in US Treasury bonds and bills.
At the top of the list, Japan held $1.10 trillion, followed by the United Kingdom with $998.3 billion and China with $618 billion.
Belgium ranked fourth at $470.7 billion, followed by the Cayman Islands at $460.1 billion and Luxembourg at $442.1 billion.
The list extends across a diverse group of major economies and financial centers, reflecting the broad international demand for US Treasury securities.
Canada ranked sixth with $426.3 billion, followed by Ireland with $350.2 billion and France with $348.4 billion. Taiwan held $296.1 billion, while Switzerland recorded $284.8 billion and Singapore $277.7 billion. Hong Kong followed with $258.32 billion, ahead of Norway at $206.9 billion, India at $202.6 billion, and Brazil at $168 billion.
Treasuries Reinforce Saudi-US Financial Ties
Saudi Arabia’s Treasury allocation reflects the broader role US government securities play in managing foreign reserves, balancing stability, liquidity and diversification.
Like other major holders, the Kingdom invests in US Treasury securities for their perceived safety and liquidity, while the holdings also form part of broader economic and financial ties with the US.
