Siamese twins from the Philippines, Akhizah and Ayeesha Yosoph, accompanied by their families, arrived on Sunday at King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital, Riyadh to examine their case. Later the hospital will consider the possibility of conducting an operation to separate them, reported Asharq Al-Awsat.
The Siamese twins arrived in Riyadh from the Philippines, via a medical evacuation plane, affiliated with the health services. Immediately upon their arrival, the twins were transferred to the King Abdullah Specialist Children Hospital at the Ministry of the National Guard.
Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center and Head of the Medical Team, Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, expressed sincere thanks and gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Crown Prince for their support to the Saudi program for separating conjoined twins, and to humanitarian work in general.
Al-Rabeeah stated that the program constitutes a milestone in its field at the international level. Moreover, it achieves the ambitious goals of the “Kingdom’s Vision 2030,” which aims to advance Saudi medical services to higher levels.
The parents of the Filipino twins, Akhizah and Ayeesha, thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Crown Prince for the warm welcome and hospitality they found since their arrival in the Kingdom.
Nigerian conjoined twins
This is not the first time for the Saudi medical team to carry out separation surgery for conjoined twins. Last February, the surgical team for the separation of conjoined twins successfully separated the Nigerian conjoined twins Hasna and Husna. The operation took place at King Abdullah Specialized Children Hospital at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh.
The separation surgery of the Nigerian twins at the King Abdullah Specialist Hospital for Children was a complex procedure that underscored the hospital’s innovative approaches and its investment in advanced medical technologies. The hospital is equipped to handle the most challenging cases, offering a level of care that is both compassionate and cutting-edge.
