Saudi Border Guard rescues injured crew member of Greek Yacht at Red Sea

Saudi Border Guard Ship “Al-Aflaj” managed on Friday, December 6th to evacuate a 24 year-old Ukrainian female who is one of the crew of (SERENITY) Yacht that carries flag of Greece in the Red Sea west of Jazan Seaport.

According to the official spokesman of Saudi Border Guard, Misfer Ghannam Al-Quraini, Jeddah Maritime Rescue Coordination Center (JMRCC) received an email message from (Jeddah Radio) referring that they had an email from the captain of the Yacht (SERENITY) carrying flag of Greece indicating that one of the crew member suffering severe pain at the right side of the abdomen and she needs medical evacuation.

“The rescue operation was conducted in accordance with implementing the commitments of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR) 1979, and in continuation to the humanitarian tasks provided by Border Guard in search and rescue operations” he said.

He added that JMRCC immediately managed to identify the location of the Yacht that was about 76 nautical miles west of Farasan Island.

He explained that JMRCC applied national plan of managing maritime disasters through opening communication with the captain of the Yacht and informing him to head for the north of Farasan Island where there is a meeting point.

Meanwhile, the Medical emergency manager in Jeddah was also in contact with the captain of the yacht to give him the necessary medical instructions.

Moreover, Border Guard’s “Al-Aflaj” ship reached the meeting point with the yacht to evacuate the patient, who was disembarked on board the ship that proceeded to Jazan Seaport. The yacht was allowed to continue sailing to its destination, the Port of Salalah.

The Spokesman confirmed that the Border Guard Ship “Al-Aflaj” arrived at Prince Ahmed bin Abdul-Aziz Maritime Base in Jazan, at 2100 on Friday.

The patient was received by medical staff of female personnel of Border Guard, Immigration Authority of Jazan Seaport and the shipping agent. She was transferred to Abu Arish General Hospital in Jazan by Saudi Red Crescent ambulance accompanying by an ambulance of Border Guard.

The shipping agent was informed to finalize all regular measures with the competent authorities and to follow-up her health situation.
