Environment, Communication Mins Launch “Sunbula” Program

KSA Environment Minister, Engineer Abdul Rahman bin Abdul Mohsen Al-Fadhli, and Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Engineer Abdullah bin Amer Al-Sawaha, launched  “Sunbula” program to enable entrepreneurs to establish emerging innovative companies in the agricultural sector.

During the speech, Deputy Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, Engineer Mansour bin Hilal Al-Mushaiti, confirmed that the Ministry is working to find solutions to meet the challenges related to the sustainability of the environment and natural resources.

It also seeks to achieve water and food security, improve the quality of life. In addition, it works to enhance economic impact, diversify sources of income, and develop national capabilities through innovative solutions.  The solutions include supporting and empowering entrepreneurs by working to achieve basic pillars of creating an environment that enhances the growth of innovation and entrepreneurship.

Furthermore, it aims to establish a legislative framework that enables and facilitates doing business, stimulating investors, venture funds, startups, and entrepreneurial communities.

Al-Mushaiti pointed out that the Ministry created an agency for research and innovation and a few weeks ago launched its executive strategy for research and innovation.

This strategy includes programs to develop entrepreneurship, aiming to build an integrated entrepreneurial system, create an incubating and stimulating environment for emerging innovative companies.

It also took into account that startups currently in the environment, water, and agriculture sectors do not exceed (1%) of the total number of startups in Saudi Arabia. As a result,  the Ministry aims to exceed the global average for the number of startups in these sectors which is about 10%.

It is also expected that entrepreneurship in these sectors will contribute about 4 billion riyals to the non-oil GDP by 2030.

It is noteworthy that the “Sunbula” program aims to build a pioneering community specialized in the agricultural sector, help agricultural startups grow, and attract venture capital, through a number of programs and initiatives.
